Baku hosts official reception on Croatia`s Statehood Day
Baku, 6 July (AZERTAC). An official reception was held Friday here to mark public holiday of Croatia, Statehood Day, and the country`s joining the European Union.
The event brought together speakers Ogtay Asadov of the Azerbaijani parliament and Josip Leko of the Croatian legislative body, MPs, diplomats and journalists.
Speaking at the event, Leko praised the fact that Baku hosts Croatia`s public holiday and described this as a sing of development of Azerbaijan-Croatia relationship. The speaker recalled Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev`s official visit to Zagreb, underlining the importance of documents signed during the trip. Leko pointed out his country attaches great importance to development of relations with Azerbaijan.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Leko said his country supports Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity. He expressed hope that the conflict would be settled soon.
Speaker of the Azerbaijani parliament Ogtay Asadov congratulated the Croatian people on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev. He praised Azerbaijan-Croatia economic cooperation. The speaker noted Azerbaijan was an initiator and active participant of transnational projects. He underscored the role of Azerbaijan in energy security of Europe.
Asadov also said legislative bodies play important role in development of reciprocal visits. He praised the activities of friendship groups in the parliaments of both countries. The speaker expressed confidence that Leko`s visit to Azerbaijan would contribute to boosting relationship between Azerbaijan and Croatia.
The event also featured a concert program.
