Boat carrying flood victims capsizes in Pakistan, five feared dead

In Pakistan, a rescue boat carrying flood victims capsized in South Punjab’s Rahim Yar Khan District, leaving five people feared dead. According to rescue officials, more than 20 people were on board when the vessel overturned in floodwaters.
Army divers have so far recovered the bodies of two women and a man, while the search continues for two others. In a separate incident in Multan District, southern Punjab, four people drowned in floodwaters, with two bodies recovered to date. Just three days earlier, an overcrowded rescue boat capsized in the same region, killing five people, including a woman and four children.
Authorities report that more than two million people trapped in floodwaters in Punjab Province have been evacuated to safer areas, while 4.2 million people have been affected overall. Over 2,000 schools have been completely or partially damaged by the floods.
Meanwhile, heavy rains and flooding continue across Punjab, prompting further evacuation orders for low-lying areas. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in various parts of the country. Officials warn that ongoing rains in the upper regions could significantly raise river levels. The NDMA has also issued an urgent advisory for heavy rainfall across Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan provinces in the next 24 hours.
