COE COMMISSIONER FOR HUMAN RIGHTS GIVES PRESS CONFERENCE
Baku, September 8 (AZERTAC). The Council of Europe’s Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg gave a press conference in Baku Friday to sum up his Azerbaijan visit.
Hammarberg said the results of his visit aimed at assessing the human rights situation in the country will be included in the report he is going to prepare in three months.
Hammarberg said he familiarized himself with living conditions of Azeri refugees and IDPs in Goranboy and Agdam, and discussed the issue with President Ilham Aliyev and minister of national security.
The Commissioner said he inspected conditions of prisoners, and stressed that Azerbaijan had achieved positive changes in prison system.
Hammarberg said he also familiarized himself with media situation in the country.
Thomas Hammarberg said he held talks with Azerbaijan commissioner for human rights Elmira Suleymanova, and visited a number of regions with her.
