CONGRESS OFFICIALLY OPENS
Opening ceremony of the 11th Friendship, Brotherhood and Cooperation Congress of Turkic States and Communities took place at Gulistan Palace in Baku on Saturday.
Initiated and presided over by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and co-organized by the Turkish-speaking States and Communities Friendship, Brotherhood and Cooperation Foundation (TUDEV) and the Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency (TIKA), the Congress has brought together nearly 800 delegates and guests from over 30 countries.
An exhibition of photographs depicting the acts of terror and genocide, including the Khojaly massacre, committed against the Turkish-speaking peoples over the history, was arranged at the palace’s lobby.
At the assembly hall, the participants of the Congress warmly greeted the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the leader of Turkish Cypriots Mehmet Ali Talat and officials from other Turkish-speaking states.
They observed a minute of science to remember the outstanding personalities of the Turkic world such as Heydar Aliyev, Mustafa Kamal Ataturk, Ahmad Yasavi, Alisher Navoi and Alparslan Turkesh.
Opening speech was made by co-Chair of the Congress Organizational Committee for Azerbaijan, Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Azerbaijanis Living Abroad, Nazim Ibrahimov.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed the Congress.
