COURSES TO BE ORGANIZED FOR RELIGION JOURNALISTS
“Roundtable” discussion on “Coverage of religion-related problems in the press” took place December 6 in the International Press Center.
The mistakes made by some journalists in covering religious questions cause discontent in the society. The main aim of the event is to clarify these issues and search for the ways of correcting mistakes.
Results of the monitoring conducted by the Press Council over the past three months have been announced. It appeared that some religion journalists are far from the essence of the issue. The Press Council contacted the Baku Islamic University about organizing courses for religion journalists
Milli Majlis deputy, editor-in-chief of “Azerbaijan” newspaper Bakhtiyar Sadigov, MP Fazil Gazanfaroglu, executive of the State Committee for Working with Religious Associations Gunduz Ismayilov and others made some things clear about the religious issues. Speakers were concerned about activity of various sects, stressing Islam is the religion of sciences, culture, justice and development. Journalists writing religion-related stories must pay attention to covering positive aspects of religion rather than sects.
