Day of Azerbaijan held in London
Baku, November 22 (AZERTAC). London-based European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has hosted the Day of Azerbaijan.
Co-organized by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy and Industry and the EBRD, the event was supported by the Azerbaijani Embassy to UK and The European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS).
The event was attended by representatives of Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Economy and Industry, British government organizations, the EBRD, the diplomatic corps in London, business circles, as well as entrepreneurs from Azerbaijan.
The event started with the demonstration of a documentary on Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijani Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev addressed the event.
The Minister noted the Day of Azerbaijan was aimed at promoting the country’s history and culture, and socio-economic development.
Mustafayev said Azerbaijan achieved rapid economic development in a short period of time, and completed the transformation to a market economy after strong reforms carried out in all fields of economy since regaining its independence 22 years ago.
Head of the Azerbaijan Export & Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) Rufat Mammadov, Director of the Anti-Corruption Department under the Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Kamran Aliyev, Executive Director of the Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC), Director General of Holcim-Azerbaijan Rossen Papazov, General Manager of Baku Shipyard LLC David Loh, member of Board of Directors of the CNIM Azerbaijan LLC Stefano Costa, and Head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Resident Office in Azerbaijan Neil McKain also addressed the event.
President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Sir Suma Chakrabarti praised Azerbaijan’s achievements in the past 10 years, particularly the government`s work to boost economy.
He said the organization of the Day of Azerbaijan would contribute to strengthening cooperation in the years ahead.
On the sidelines of the event Minister Mustafayev met EBRD President Chakrabarti and Managing Director for Turkey, Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia Olivier Descamps to discuss prospects for expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Bank.
