DEFENSE MINISTERS OF TURKMENISTAN AND AZERBAIJAN MEET IN BAKU
At the invitation of Azerbaijan`s Defense Minister Safar Abiyev, Turkmen Defense Minister Agageldi Mamedgeldiyev has today arrived in Baku for a two-day official visit.
Turkmen Minister started his visit by laying flowers at the grave of national leader Heydar Aliyev, and Eternal Fire monument at the Martyrs` Alley to pay respect to heroes who fell for the independence and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan.
Defense Ministers met in private and in the presence of the two countries` delegations.
Abiyev said bilateral relations serve the national interests of both peoples. According to him, the fact that both peoples have common roots, make both countries get closer. Azerbaijani Minister noted this visit can be considered as the beginning of bilateral military relationship.
On the existing military and political situation in the region, Safar Abiyev said Armenia continued to impede peaceful resolution of the conflict. According to him, Azerbaijan will use other means if peace is not achieved.
Defense Minister of Turkmenistan pointed out development bilateral relations answers both countries` interests.
Mamedgeldiyev said Turkmenistan supports territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and considers occupied territories as the integral part of Azerbaijan.
The meeting also focused on military cooperation, Caspian status and other issues of mutual interest.
Turkmen ambassador in Azerbaijan Annamammad Mammadov was present at the meeting.
