DRUG TRAFFICKING GANG APPREHENDED
Azerbaijan`s ministry of national security said it exposed a gang dealing in drug trafficking between Iran and Azerbaijan.
The detained drug dealers included: the gang`s leader, citizen of Iran Latif Mehriban (born 1966), his counterpart Kerim Yari (born 1959), resident of Agjabadi Rafig Safiyev (born 1963), residents of Gazakh Muhammad Chobanaliyev (born 1982), Pasha Ahmadov (born 1983), Etibar Ismayilov (born 1981) and Sabuhi Rahimov (born 1982).
Officers of the national security ministry seized an AKM rifle, 22 cartridges, one magazine and over 5 kilograms of heroin from Mehriban`s gang, which, between 2004-2007, supplied 25 kilograms of heroin and 77 kilograms of other narcotic substances to dealers in Iran.
Investigations resulted in the arrests of 37 members of the gang, including thirty citizens of Azerbaijan, two citizens of Iran and one of Georgia.
According to the ministry of national security, one more gang consisting of two Jalilabad residents was exposed.
Samad Mammadov (born 1978) and Rovshan Garayev (born 1981) were dealing in hashish between Azerbaijan and Iran, and national security officers seized 19 kilograms of the drug from them.
