ESTONIAN OBSERVERS SAY ELECTIONS TRANSPARENT
Estonian observers stated the parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan were transparent. Member of the Estonian observation mission Ernst Kirnberg told AzerTAj reporter he had been involved as an observer in the elections in Azerbaijan before, last time in 2004 municipal elections. This time voters were more active as compared with previous elections, he noted. Mr. Kirnberg described the new election procedures introduced at the European community’s recommendations as praiseworthy. “The most important thing is that those who voters want to be elect be elected,” he said. The Estonian observer added no irregularities he had witnessed. Other Estonian parliamentarians Hellia Holita and Maya Rastra said they observed polling in 30 stations. “Despite a few irregularities, which will be reflected in the final document, great progress in holding democratic elections is obvious”, they said. The Estonian observers added chatting with voters they had made sure that people believed in democratic and transparent elections.
