EUROPEAN UNION SATISFIED WITH REFORMS IN AZERBAIJAN
As was informed to AzerTAj from the press center of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, having noted importance of each visit of the European diplomats to Azerbaijan, Mr. Elmar Mammadyarov has expressed confidence that these meetings render positive influence on development of mutual relations. Having emphasized, that contacts between Europe and Azerbaijan are at high level, the Minister of Foreign Affairs has stated that the Country takes active participation in the program of the European Union “New Neighborhood”, and has expressed hope that the mentioned program even more will strengthen relations of Azerbaijan with the European countries. Having noted, that the management of the Country gives great value to policy of integration of Azerbaijan in the European and Euro-Atlantic structures, Elmar Mammadyarov has especially emphasized, that the Republic is not only the neighbor to Europe, but also its part. Speaking about the reforms conducted in Azerbaijan directed on integration into the European structures, the Minister has noted, that the management the Country attaches great importance to questions of protection of human rights, creations of civil society basing on democratic principles, and has underlined that Azerbaijan continues the said process.
Having touched the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorny Karabakh conflict, the head of foreign policy department has expressed hope for support of the countries of the European Union in the field of peace settlement of the mentioned problem, has emphasized importance of the international public has shown resolute position on the question of artificial settlement by Armenia the population on the occupied lands.
Having agreed with necessity of expansions of relations between the European Union and Azerbaijan due to joint efforts, Mr. Heike Talvitie has expressed confidence that expansion of relations would benefit to both sides. Having informed, that the report on Azerbaijan in the near future will be prepared, the visitor has stated that the European Union would adhere in this cause a constructive position. H. Talvitie has noted, that by results of the meetings, which have been carried out for the period of his stay in Azerbaijan, he has been informed on the reforms, which are carried out in the country in many areas, and occurring changes. The visitor has said that the fact of maintenance in Azerbaijan freedoms of worship has made positive impression on the delegation, that the Union represented by him supports the policy pursued in Azerbaijan in the direction of integration into the European structures.
At the meeting, attended by the ambassador of France to Azerbaijan Roland Blatman, also discussed were other questions representing mutual interest.
