Event dedicated to 66th jubilee of UN held in Azerbaijan`s Khazar University
Baku, October 20 (AZERTAC). An event marking the 66th anniversary of establishment of the United Nations (UN) was held in Khazar University on Wednesday.
The ceremony supported by UN`s Department of Public Information (DPI) was organized within the framework of the Academic Impulse Program and “UN 4 U” (`United Nations for You”) campaign.
A documentary “UN is your world” was demonstrated in the vent.
Expert of the UN DPI Vafa Safarli informed students on the UN`s system, its activity and progress achieved in the world and in Azerbaijan.
Addressing the ceremony, head of Azerbaijan Office of the World Food Programme (WFP) Fuad Huseynov said that the WFP, the world`s largest humanitarian organization addressing famine worldwide, provides food to help people suffering from natural disasters and stimulate the development over 40 years.
On October 24, 1945, the UN came into force when the five permanent members of the Security Council ratified the charter that had been drawn up earlier that year. These members were: France, the Republic of China, the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Since 1948, the event`s anniversary has been known as United Nations Day. It is an occasion to highlight, celebrate and reflect on the work of the UN and its family of specialized agencies.
