Tbilisi, June 4, AZERTAC
Chairmen of the Committee on Defense, Security and Counter-Corruption, the Committee on Science and Education, and the Committee on Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis, who are currently on a visit to Georgia, met with Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili.
The meeting focused on prospects for strengthening interparliamentary relations, fostering cooperation in sports and youth policy, science and education, and enhancing collaboration at the legislative level.
Shalva Papuashvili expressed his gratitude to Azerbaijan for its support during the adoption of the resolution submitted by Georgia to the UN General Assembly titled “On the Status of Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees from Abkhazia, Georgia, and the Tskhinvali Region/South Ossetia.”
He emphasized that the resolution received unprecedented support during the 2025 session, with 107 countries voting in favor for the first time, thanks in part to Azerbaijan’s close involvement.
Papuashvili described this as a clear demonstration of Azerbaijan's friendship and brotherhood toward Georgia.
The sides also discussed organizing a joint forum, bilateral meetings, and summer camps for Azerbaijani and Georgian youth.
