Juventus win Serie A crown, scudetto number 28
Baku, May 8 (AZERTAC). Juventus win the 2011-2012 Italian football league, also known as the scudetto. The team from Turin won its second last match yesterday evening against Cagliari, 2-0, whereas Milan were beaten in the derby by Inter, ending this way any hopes for a title one week ahead.
This is the 28th scudetto of Juventus` history, the first after almost ten years: the last one achieved was in 2002-03. The bianconeri (black and white tops) had in fact also won the following two seasons but both scudetti were revoked due to the calciopoli scandal. The Turin squad are now once again victorious after the dark years of the calciopoli match fixing and the decision by the federation relegate Juventus down to the serie B.
This new scudetto for Juventus also comes in a significant year for the club as it was their first in the new Juventus Stadium, the club owned park which was in fact inaugurated on the first match of the season against Parma.
Milan, after their dreams of grabbing hold of the scudetto themselves, had to give up and hand over to Juventus the scudetto they had won last year. It was up to Inter to end the hopes for their city rivals with a hat-trick scored by Diego Milito, the two goals scored by Ibrahimovic not being in fact enough to turn the match around, although the Swedish striker did reach goal number 28 and has quite surely managed to become Serie A`s top scorer this season. The Milan derby ends 4-2 for the hosts who also continue their hopes for a place in the UEFA cup.
The fight for a spot in Europe will see its conclusion only on the last day of the season. Napoli, who were in fact third, lost 2-0 against Bologna and tumble down to fifth spot, whereas Udinese beat Genoa 2-0 and take hold of the third spot with Di Natale and Floro Flores. Lazio also rise up in the table by winning 2-0 in Brescia against Atalanta. Inter are sixth with the same points as Napoli but are disadvantaged due to results in their direct encounters. The last day of the season has the teams struggling for a spot in Europe set at the following points: Udinese 61, Lazio 59, Napoli and Inter 58. These teams slipping into serie B have instead all been decided. Lecce lose their home match against Fiorentina and must salute the Italian top league one week before its end.
