LANGUAGE ISSUES OF PRESS IN LIMELIGHT
Language problems in the Azerbaijani press were discussed at the sitting.
Commission member, BSU professor Nasib Mammadov noted that Azerbaijan firmly goes along the independence way. Today, there are over 3000 thousand registered media but only 200 of them function. 14 of them are radio and TV channels, 20 print organs appear daily, 30 – monthly, the others – occasional. The role of press cannot be overestimated in building the independence of Azerbaijan. However, there are still some shortcomings in the press. The main problem is the native language. As it is known, Azerbaijani language had some impact at some time points. As a result, some foreign words were included into the Azerbaijani language. Disregard of some Azerbaijani language niceties caused some problems. A press monitoring was conducted to study the situation. It was found out that only official press uses words peculiar to our native tongue.
Sitting participants, media representatives spoke of problems and offered some way outs of the present situation.
