London earns tourism bump from Olympic and Paralympic Games

Baku, November 4 (AZERTAC). Tourism in the capital and nationwide has been given a massive boost by the London 2012 Games, according to senior tourism chiefs.

Nearly two in three say there has been an increase in demand for trips to London following last year’s summer of sport.

And 52 per cent of the 1,277 executives polled said they had increased their London capacity while 42 per cent have made more UK capacity available.

“It just goes to show that if you get something the size and ambition of the Olympics right, the benefits down the line will be considerable,” said Simon Press, whose World Travel Market (WTM) show began in London today.

The senior exhibition director added: “For more than two glorious weeks the eyes of the world were focused on the UK and the country delivered.

“Every man, woman and child who helped make the event such a success should feel very proud of the positive impact they have made and we hope the country continues to reap the benefits.”
