A broadened meeting of Court and Legal Council has been held in the Ministry of Justice of Azerbaijan to discuss the results of the analysis of court’s activities and measures on improving efficiency of justice. Minister of Justice Mr. Fikrat Mammadov mentioned progressive reforms conducted in this area, measures for ensuring independence of judicial authorities, but stressed at the same time, that the courts venture to make serious mistakes and break the law arousing people’s fair discontent. He drew the attention to concrete measures for elimination of the negative facts mentioned in censorious remarks made by President Ilham Aliyev during his February meeting with local entrepreneurs.

The meeting participants have focused on the measures for improving the judges elections system, and planned to discuss the prepared package of appropriate proposals during the forthcoming meeting with experts of the Council of Europe.

The meeting was attended by members of the Court and Legal Council under President of Azerbaijan Republic: Chairman of the Constitutional Court Farkhad Abdullayev, Chairman of the Supreme Court Sudaba Hasanova, Chairman of the Econimc Court Jafar Veliyev, Chairman of the Court of Appeal Gulzar Rzayeva, Chairman of Grave Crimes Court Makhmud Nabiyev, Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov, Chairman of Presidium of the Bar Azer Tagiyev, as well as Chairmen of local courts and judges.
