MM DEPUTY SPEAKER MEETS AGO GROUP TO DISCUSS AMENDMENTS TO SOME LAWS
Milli Majlis Deputy Speaker Ziyafet Asgarov met Friday with visiting members of the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers “Ago” Monitoring Group.
Asgarov briefed Ago group members on ongoing legal and democratic reforms in the country, saying Azerbaijan had fulfilled the majority of its CoE obligations.
Head of the Ago Group Per Sjogren said their visit aims to study how Azerbaijan honors its CoE obligations. During the meetings in Baku, he was curious about expected amendments to the Election Code, Criminal Code, law on freedom of assembly and law on television and radio broadcasting.
Asgarov noted that talks on amendments to the Election Code and Law on Freedom of Assembly are on the verge of being completed. Some amendments and supplements to both laws will be made in April-May. Consultations on other two laws are still in progress.
He said Azerbaijan is interested in improving its laws, developing democracy and integrating into Europe.
The meeting then focused on other issues of mutual concern.
