MP: New Georgian government seeks closer economic relations with Azerbaijan

Baku, February 12(AZERTAC). “The new government of Georgia wants to build closer economic relations and strengthen its cooperation with Azerbaijan,” Georgian MP David Onopriashvili, a participant of a Baku meeting of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly’s Energy Security Committee, has told journalists.

“Georgia is closely involved in the implementation of energy projects in Azerbaijan and the future steps of official Tbilisi will be in the interests of both countries,” he said.

“Development of the cooperation with Azerbaijan in energy sphere is one of the key priorities of the Georgian government`s policy. Georgia is a transit country in transportation of Azerbaijan’s hydrocarbon resources through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipelines, and this positively impacts the economic development,” Onopriashvili added.
