NATO READY TO RENDER ASSISTANCE IN PROTECTION OF BTC PIPELINE
NATO’s special representative for South Caucasus and Central Asia Robert Simons, during his visit to Azerbaijan stated that the Alliance had always upheld realization of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan Main Export Pipeline, albeit it is not directly engaged in protection of the MEP. The Alliance will further continue conducting seminars and courses related to protection of the pipeline, take measures against possible terror and sabotage.
It has to be noted that protection of the Azerbaijan section of pipeline will be implemented by the Special State Protection Service. As known, the export oil and gas safety department was created within the Special Service under the direct leadership of the nationwide leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev. Protection of the heaviest and most responsible branch of economy was assigned to this structure.
On this purpose, during 18 months, created were 8 regional sections, about 800 Azerbaijanis passed special trainings.
