PRESIDENT OF TURKEY HOLDS NEWS CONFERENCE AT THE TURKISH EMBASSY IN BAKU
On the second day of his visit to Azerbaijan, President of Turkey Abdullah Gul held a news conference at the Turkish Embassy in Baku.
Noting hospitality of Azerbaijani people, he expressed gratitude to the brotherly nation.
The President informed the Turkish entrepreneurs on the agreements reached, estimating them as important from the point of view of bilateral relations.
In reply to possible threat by PKK for the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline, President Gul said there was no problem with the safety of pipeline. Turkey fights against this evil and is resolute in this matter, he emphasized. Turkey is not going to occupy Iraq, but our target is the terrorism, he added. PKK has been recognized as a terrorist organization in the world.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Turkish President said his country is against forcible change of borders. Ignorance by the international community of the conflicts on the South Caucasus region, including the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, is not normal, he stressed.
President of Turkey said establishment of democratic institutions in Azerbaijan is a long-term process and it needs certain time. I believe, Mr. Gul said, Azerbaijan will soon reach European standards of democracy in the country. The major factor is the political will of the head of state, he underlined. According to him, President Ilham Aliyev resolutely continues this line.
The Turkish President also dwelt on the non-visa regime among the Turkish-speaking countries.
Noting historically mutual support of the two fraternal countries, President Gul said he has invited President Ilham Aliyev to pay official visit to Turkey.
