QUESTIONS OF POWER SUPPLY OF NAKHCHIVAN IN LIMELIGHT
The Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic that is in the blockade since the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict began, is provided by electricity mainly from the neighboring Turkey and Iran.
A power station comprising 10 modules of 87,9 MW electricity will be built and put into operation in 2006 to put an end to this dependence. In the first half of next year, four turbines will use natural gas instead of diesel fuel and thus another 60 MW energy will be produced in the Republic. The “Ordubad” (36 MW) and “Vaykhir” (4,5 MW) power stations will be built in 2006-2009. Also is under consideration the effectiveness of the construction of another thermoelectric power station of 100 MW using natural gas.
