Samsung Unveils Game Controller and Companion App for Android Smartphones
Baku, December 18 (AZERTAC). Apple partnered with Logitech to introduce a game controller for its iOS devices in October and it seems Samsung is following in its footsteps.
The South-Korean tech giant launched its first ever smartphone game controller, GamePad, and a Mobile Console app in Seoul today. The controller fits into any Android device measuring between 4.3 and 6-inches,reveals the press release.
Unlike Apple, Samsung's game controller does not need to be attached to the device, it runs on Bluetooth. NFC connectivity is also enabled on the device, which connects the controller to other Galaxy devices from Samsung like Galaxy Note 3, S4, Note II, and S III.
The game controller is made of steel molded in a plastic encasement. The controller design apparently matches the PS 4 controller with analog sticks but is slightly smaller than the latter. Other features include an eight-way D-Pad, two analog sticks, four action buttons and two triggers on the GamePad, reveals a recent post on Gizbot.
The device can be connected to any Android device running Android 4.1 or above. The game controller comes with a play button that gives quick access to the games. Interestingly, the controller when linked to Galaxy devices can be also be used to play games on television sets through an HDMI cable and AllShare Screen Mirroring.
Samsung's companion app for the same lets users browse and purchase games supported on GamePad. The Mobile Console app offers 35 games as of now and includes some ever popular titles like Need for Speed: Most Wanted, Asphalt8: Airborne, Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour, Virtua Tennis Challenge, and Prince of Persia: The Shadow and the Flame.
There has been no word on pricing yet. The game controller will be primarily available in a few European countries for the moment, which will be gradually extended to other countries over time. The Mobile Console app can be either downloaded from Samsung apps store or by tapping the PLAY button on the controller.
