Serena Williams joins ownership group of WNBA’s Toronto Tempo

Serena Williams, one of the world’s most popular athletes, has become the newest member of the ownership group for Canada’s first WNBA team, the Toronto Tempo, according to Forbes.
Retired tennis great Williams, who won 23 major titles, joins the team’s ownership group alongside Larry Tanenbaum, Chairman of Kilmer Sports Ventures, the NBA Board of Governors and Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment, which owns the city's NBA, NHL and MLS teams.
The Toronto Tempo are scheduled to begin play in 2026 as the WNBA’s 14th franchise and will compete in the league as a member of the Eastern Conference. The Tempo will be the first WNBA team located outside of the United States and the first in Canada.
The team will play their matches at the Coca-Cola Coliseum and host regular-season games across Canada.
