The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Sweden hosted a memorial event commemorating the 22nd anniversary of the passing of National Leader Heydar Aliyev. The ceremony was attended by representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora and embassy staff.
Addressing the ceremony, Ambassador Zaur Ahmadov highlighted that National Leader Heydar Aliyev devoted his entire life to serving the Azerbaijani people. He stressed that throughout his political career, the Great Leader consistently placed the interests of Azerbaijan above everything else. The Ambassador also spoke about the special attention and care Heydar Aliyev dedicated to youth and students.
“Five days ago, during our meeting with Azerbaijani students studying in Sweden, in Uppsala, we emphasized that during the Soviet era, at the initiative of the Great Leader, thousands of talented Azerbaijani youths were sent to leading universities across the Soviet Union. Over 15,000 Azerbaijani students were sent to 170 universities to study 250 different specializations. These individuals later made significant contributions to the development of Azerbaijan,” the Ambassador noted.
Representatives of the diaspora also spoke about Heydar Aliyev’s historical role, emphasizing that he saved Azerbaijan from the threat of fragmentation, preserved the country’s unity and integrity, and entrusted the future of the state to a wise and far-sighted leader – President Ilham Aliyev, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief.
The event concluded with the screening of a video dedicated to the life and legacy of National Leader Heydar Aliyev.
