A meeting to commemorate the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis took place at the Ministry of Internal Affairs, March 31, the Ministry’s press service reports. Opening the meeting, Interior Minister, General-Colonel Ramil Usubov stressed that one of the most mournful and tragic chapters of the history of Azerbaijan – Day of Genocide – is marked not only in Azerbaijan but also far beyond its borders. He stated that Armenian chauvinists had regularly committed bloody deeds against Azerbaijanis. The Minister said that although Armenian nationalists had brought terrible miseries and tragedies to Azerbaijan, the truth of the genocide had been concealed from the public. Genuine political and legal assessment was given only by nationwide leader Mr. Heydar Aliyev. The decrees ”On mass deportation of Azerbaijanis from their historic-ethnic lands in Armenian SSR in 1948-1953” and “On Genocide of Azerbaijanis” unveiled the point of genocide policy pursued by Armenian chauvinists and made us remember those tragic brutal events.

Since then, the memory of genocide victims is revered at the official level yearly. Due to successful domestic and foreign policy pursued by Heydar Aliyev, the economic and defense power of Azerbaijan is steadily growing, and now we are determined to liberate our lands. Having realized it Armenian chauvinists changed their tactics and shifted their focus on undermining of the prestige of Azerbaijan at the international arena. However, all their efforts will fail. Minister stressed that worthy successor of Heydar Aliyev’s political course – President Ilham Aliyev denounced the aggressive policy of Armenia in the reputable international organizations. Today he successfully continues the work towards recognition of Armenia as the aggressor.

Then, Dr. of History, Prof. Khagani Mammadov reported on the genocide of Azerbaijanis. For centuries, some peoples have been subjected to genocide but this one is unique. Because of these events, thousands of civilians were brutally killed. Summing up the meeting, colonel general Ramil Usubov stated that deeds and violence committed by Armenian nationalists would never be forgotten and stressed the necessity to bring the truth of aggressive policy of Armenia to the world community’s notice.
