TO PERSONNEL OF NATIONAL SECURITY SERVICES OF AZERBAIJAN REPUBLIC
The glorious history of the Azerbaijan security services began with founding secret service and counterespionage departments under the Headquarters of the Military Ministry of Azerbaijan People’s Jumhuriyyat on March 28, 1919. For 85 years, these bodies have come difficult, contradictory but successful way. Under the People’s Jumhuriyyat, the security bodies of Azerbaijan served the young independent state. During the next 70 years, as the part of the USSR security service, the Azerbaijan security bodies carried out policy of the Soviet Union. As a result of serious reforms carried out due to the efforts taken by our nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev in 1960-1970, the Azerbaijan security service had been nationalized that was the major achievement of the organization.
After gaining independence, founder of the Azerbaijan Republic Heydar Aliyev laid the foundation of the security bodies to serve the national interest of the country. Transformation of the Ministry of National Security of the Azerbaijan Republic into the structure dedicated to its people and homeland, became possible exactly thanks to our nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev’s daily concern and leadership. The security service’s preventive activities against destructive actions by foreign secret services and separate persons taken against sovereignty, constitution and other vital interests of the Azerbaijan Republic, acquired more successive, fruitful and systems character.
During exactly the mentioned period, subversive and terrorist activities of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh separatists were suppressed; and serious progress was achieved in fight against international terrorism. The Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan Republic successfully fighting against terrorism together with its foreign allies has played an important role in turning our country into one of the most active members of the anti-terror coalition, and is continuing his activity at the moment.
The tasks of the national security services include defense of the state independence of Azerbaijan, provision of the security and democratic stability in the country, reinforcing its anti-terror activity, protection of communications of strategic importance for our economy and other ones directed to protection of national interests.
I am confident that personnel of the Ministry of National Security, who in a worthy manner continues glorious traditions of the Heydar Aliyev’s school, will mobilize all their efforts to cope with all the tasks showing boundless devotion, patriotism, personal courage, will and pure morality towards their Homeland. Working at the Ministry of National Security, providing security of our state must be taken as a great honor by every citizen of Azerbaijan. I hope the staff of the security services will deeply realize their responsibility and do their duties in a worthy manner.
