Ukraine elected to UNESCO Executive board
Baku, November 14 (AZERTAC). Ukraine was elected a member of the Executive Board of UNESCO for the 2013-2017 periods. UNN was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Ukraine`s candidacy was supported by 169 countries, including Azerbaijan, out of 185 UNESCO member states, which took part in the vote.
Ukraine`s election to the governing body of UNESCO will strengthen Ukraine`s reputation as an active and responsible member state of UNESCO, which makes a significant contribution to the activities of the Organization, including those relating to the implementation of initiatives to enhance international cooperation in science, education and culture.
The Executive Board of UNESCO is one of two (along with the General Conference) governing bodies of UNESCO. The Council consists of 58 Member States of UNESCO.
The Chairman of the National Commission for UNESCO is the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Ruslan Demchenko.
For the period of membership in UNESCO since May 12, 1954, Ukraine has been already elected to the Executive Board for three times: 1981-1985, 1995-1999 and 2001-2005.
