UN MARKS HUMAN RIGHTS DAY IN AZERBAIJAN

Azerbaijani ombudswoman Elmira Suleymanova and the UN public information department held an event on the International Human Rights Day in Ataturk Center, on December 10.

Mrs. Suleymanova told of works done to protect the human rights and freedoms in Azerbaijan as well as significance of the National Action Plan.

UN resident coordinator in Azerbaijan Bruno Pouezat underlined that Universal Declaration of Human Rights will turn 60 on December 10, 2008. Mr. Pouezat highly valued the works done in Azerbaijan to protect the human rights.

Deputy of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan Parliament) Havva Mammadova and others told of significance of the national legislation in protecting the human rights and the role of the public in advocating for human rights.

Address by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Human Rights Day to the nations of world was brought to the participants’ attention.
