US ENVOY TO AZERBAIJAN VISITS AGJABADI
US Ambassador in Baku Mrs. Anne Derse visited Agjabadi region.
The Ambassador met with Agjabadi Governor Shahin Mammadov to discuss US-Azerbaijan relations.
Shahin Mammadov informed the US envoy about Agjabadi`s social and economic progress.
The Governor expressed his gratitude to the US government for supporting Azerbaijan.
Anne Derse said Azerbaijan is the United States` closest ally in the region.
The American envoy praised Azerbaijan`s joining the US-led anti-terror war and peacekeeping operations.
Derse said USA is interested in the development of Azerbaijan`s non-oil sector.
The Ambassador said she believes the US-Azerbaijan Memorandum of Understanding on energy security cooperation will play a huge role in boosting economic relations between the two countries.
On the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Anne Derse said she will make every possibly effort to help find a peaceful solution to the dispute.
The US envoy also said American organizations have contributed $325m in humanitarian aid to Azeri refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
After the meeting with the Agjabadi Governor, Anne Derse toured the city.
The US Ambassador then attended a ceremony to launch USAID`s “Civil Society Project” in Parioglular settlement.
Anne Derse also officially opened a 25-bed hospital for Lachin IDPs in the “Takhta korpu” (Wooden bridge) settlement.
The hospital`s construction was funded by the United States` International Rescue Committee.
