US prominent linguist visits Azerbaijan University of Languages
Baku, November 24 (AZERTAC). Prezident Emeritus of the Hartford University, USA, the prominenet linguist, professor Humprey Tonkin who is here to attend a conference “Crosscultural dialigue: linguisttic, pedagogical and literary aspects” met here with linguists at the Azerbaijan University of Languages (AUL).
AUL rector Samad Seyidov highlighted the importance of languages in studying intercultural relations, and gave information about AUL’s international relations, and the languages taught at University, the main directions of the Translation and Philology School, the activities of the International relations and Regional studies School of AUL.
Professor Humprey Tonkin highly valued the implementation of the Western peculiarities with the national peculiarities of Azeri nation. He also added that this Conference was of great significance in terms of intercultural dialogue.
Mr. Tonkin is a Emeritus President of the Hartford University and professor of the Humanities at the same university. He had worked as a President of the New York State University from 1983 till 1988, and was a professor of Pensylvania University. Since 1989 he began to collaborate with the University of Hartford. H.Tonkin is an author of monographies and books on language and literature, international language problems, language and society, teaching a language and other topics. Though he is President of the University, he also works as a teacher, in the English language School of the University of Hartford, and teaches Shakespeare and theatre history at Hart school, as well as, social-linguistics subject at Modern languages School of University and delivers lectures on international linguistics in Linguistics School at Adam Mitskevich University. He was honored with a lot of awards and with the Emeritus of the University of Hartford in 1999.
