15 BILLION DEUTSCHE MARKS STILL IN CIRCULATION IN GERMANY
Whereas the united European currency was put into circulation three years ago, some people in Germany still keep a great amount of deutsche marks worth 15 billion (7,7 billion euros) and refuse to exchange them, Federal Bank of Germany said.
At present, the population of Germany reserves mark banknotes worth 8,3 billion and coins of 7,4 billion. Experts claim that with euro coming to Germany the prices surged three-fold. Owners of the rest 15 billion marks do not want to exchange their money and lose. Today, they exchange their money in parts in line with the fluctuating euro exchange rate and await the stabilization of euro.
