ARMENIAN PATRIARCH OF ISTANBUL OPPOSES “ARMENIAN GENOCIDE” BILL
Armenian Patriarch of Istanbul Archbishop Mesrop II Mutafyan stood against the U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee`s resolution on the so-called “Armenian Genocide”, AZERTAG reports citing Anadolu agency.
He pointed out that approval of the resolution is the result of the internal political fight.
He stressed at one of the Churches in Antalya that he will do his best to prevent the resolution from being approved by the US congress because “the resolution does not reflect Turkish Armenians` opinion, and we all oppose this bill. The Armenian community of Turkey is concerned about the bill and its possible consequences”.
According to Mutafyan, the existing problems between Turkey and Armenia should be solved through intensification of interaction between the two parties. He regretted over the fact that Armenian side rejected Turkish Prime Minister’s suggestion to refer the issue to historians.
