AZERBAIJAN FIRST LADY MEHRIBAN ALIYEVA ATTENDING BIBLIOBRAZ 2007 FESTIVAL
The festival was opened by Putina who said its major aim is to increase importance of school libraries.
Speaking at the event, Mehriban Aliyeva expressed her gratitude to her Russian counterpart for hosting the festival.
Mrs. Aliyeva called the festival “a wonderful possibility to provide necessary literature to young readers”.
She also noted that BibliObraz 2007 also creates favorable opportunities for translators, publishers and writers.
The Azerbaijani first lady stressed the importance of the international action “Opening one another” which is held on the sidelines of the festival.
Other speakers included first lady of Kazakhstan Tatiana Bakiyeva and wife of former German Chancellor Doris Schroder-Kopf.
The festival also featured theatrical performances called “Azerbaijan`s traditional clothing in the eyes of Russian artist G. G. Gagarin” and “Musical trip around Azerbaijan”.
Afterwards, Mehriban Aliyeva presented her Russian counterpart with a handmade doll made by famous Azerbaijani artist Elmira Abbasli.
The two first ladies then viewed the “Azerbaijan” stand which featured various books by Azerbaijani writers in Russian and other languages.
Later the same day, Mehriban Aliyeva attended an official reception hosted by Putina in order of first ladies participating in the festival.
