Azerbaijan joins 2nd Sustainable Maritime Industry Conference 2025 in Jeddah

A delegation of Azerbaijan’s State Maritime and Ports Agency represented the country at the 2nd Sustainable Maritime Industry Conference 2025 (SMIC) held in Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Habil Abbasov, Advisor to the Chairman of the Management Board, and Ramil Gasimov, Director of the International Relations Department, attended the event.
Organized by the Transport General Authority (TGA) of Saudi Arabia, the event brought together senior officials from the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO), and the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO), along with delegations from various countries, ambassadors, and leaders of the maritime transport industry.
As part of the conference, Azerbaijan held bilateral meetings with representatives from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Malaysia, and Ukraine.
During the discussions, the Azerbaijani side emphasized the country’s commitment to supporting international initiatives aimed at enhancing sustainability in maritime transport, highlighting the importance of innovation and modern technologies in improving operational efficiency and reducing emissions.
The conference focused on coordinated regional and international efforts to reduce emissions and advance digital transformation. It also included discussions on the establishment of green shipping corridors between ports, the development of standardized digital platforms and emission reporting systems, as well as the creation of regional sustainability funds to support innovation and small and medium-sized enterprises.
The sessions addressed cutting-edge maritime technologies, the role of digitalization in enhancing efficiency and safety, and contributions to building a sustainable transport industry, while seminars covered strategies for reducing carbon emissions in shipping, roadmaps for small and medium-sized maritime enterprises, and the development of green finance and insurance solutions that support sustainable growth.
