AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV RECEIVES MOSCOW DELEGATION
Earlier, on the same day, President Ilham Aliyev and Mayor Yuriy Luzhkov had met in private.
Warmly greeting the guests, the Head of Sate announced that very important issues had been discussed during his one-on-one meeting with Mr. Luzhkov. The visit of the Moscow delegation consisting of representatives of various sectors of industry and business, according to him, is an indication of great mutual interest between Azerbaijan and Moscow in development of bilateral economic relations. This is very good prerequisite for joining efforts for the welfare of both sides, and, especially since, there is very positive political basis for that, President Ilham Aliyev said.
The Head of State stressed as well, that Azerbaijan is continuing to follow Heydar Aliyev’s course regarding development of bilateral relations, and expressed confidence that this visit of the Moscow delegation would promote new achievements in both economic and humanitarian spheres. Russia is our strategic partner, and we are devoted to this policy, the President said.
Having expressed deep gratitude to the Azerbaijan President for the meeting, Moscow Mayor Yuriy Luzhkov highly appreciated the activity of the President Heydar Aliyev-initiated joint commission for development of bilateral relations and its co-Chair Abbas Abbasov. In this connection, he expressed satisfaction with development of cooperation in the spheres of general education, healthcare and culture. We intend to intensify our cooperation in the sphere of culture; maintenance of common cultural space is our follow-up task, Yuriy Luzhkov emphasized.
The Mayor noted however, that huge potential of Azerbaijan’s machine building and chemical industry, as well as innovative technologies, is not used in full measure, and shared his views on development of cooperation in these fields. Realization of these projects will promote performing of the task that you, Mr. President, have set on job creation, he said. Besides, Mr. Luzhkov described as very prospective the establishment of cooperation in confectionary production, fruits delivery and intensification of active deposits.
President Ilham Aliyev thanked the Moscow Mayor for the detailed information and expressed his complete support for the mentioned initiatives. He noted that each of the mentioned directions is very important for Azerbaijan, and the job creation is one of the main problems facing our country.
I believe that economic, political and humanitarian constituents of our cooperation will bring our two countries even closer, the Head of State concluded.
Present at the meeting were first Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Abbas Abbasov, Baku Mayor Hajibala Abutalybov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Russia Ramiz Rizayev and other officials.
