Azerbaijan’s gastronomic tourism potential has been presented at the “Terra Madre Salone del Gusto 2026” international gastronomy festival in Turin, Italy.
Held under the slogan "Biodiversity – Be Diversity," the festival featured a national stand titled “Azerbaijan: Biodiversity, Heritage and Taste,” established by the State Tourism Agency. The stand highlighted Azerbaijan’s gastronomic heritage, local biodiversity, traditional food products, and small-scale producers.
At the festival, representatives of the State Tourism Agency and the National Culinary Center showcased the Greater Caucasus “Slow Food Travel” route, the use of the “Slow Food” approach in Azerbaijan’s gastronomic tourism, and efforts to preserve local biodiversity and promote traditional products in the country.
The national stand also featured regional products such as heirloom hazelnuts, honey, tea, local rice and wheat varieties, jams, pickles, and “Ark of Taste” products. Master chef Kanan Balashov presented traditional cooking methods, while local chefs and farmers offered modern dishes and traditional Azerbaijani sweets, including qovut, shekerbura, pakhlava, and various types of halva.
Azerbaijan also showcased its beekeeping traditions, honey varieties, and culinary uses at the “Azerbaijan Flavored with Honey” workshop. Pastry chef Betül Huseynli also prepared traditional halva from Gara Gilchig wheat, an “Ark of Taste” product.
“Terra Madre Salone del Gusto” is one of the flagship international events of the “Slow Food” movement. The festival aims to protect biodiversity and local food heritage, promote sustainable food systems, support small-scale producers, and facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise internationally.
