Azerbaijan to host AIIB’s 12th Annual Meeting in 2027

The 11th Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) was held in Doha, Qatar.
Azerbaijan's Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov attended the opening ceremony and official session of the Annual Meeting, as well as the Governors’ Roundtable, and held numerous bilateral meetings.
The AIIB Board of Governors decided to hold AIIB’s 12th Annual Meeting in Azerbaijan.
Addressing the event, Mikayil Jabbarov expressed his gratitude to the members of the Board of Governors for the decision to host the AIIB Annual Meeting in Baku in 2027 and for their confidence in Azerbaijan.
Jabbarov said: “Azerbaijan is honored to host AIIB’s 12th Annual Meeting in 2027 and looks forward to welcoming AIIB members and partners to Baku. As a country connecting regions and supporting economic cooperation, Azerbaijan is committed to advancing sustainable growth, innovation and regional connectivity. The Annual Meeting will provide an important platform to exchange ideas and strengthen collaboration on the future of infrastructure development.”
The event showcased Azerbaijan’s transport, energy and digital connectivity capabilities, which can contribute to the AIIB’s “Infrastructure for Tomorrow” mission. The Annual Meeting, to be held on July 14–15, 2027, will provide an important opportunity to broaden discussions on infrastructure and connectivity issues in the South Caucasus, Central Asia and the wider Caspian region.
The Governors’ Roundtable held as part of the Annual Meeting focused on priorities for future cooperation between the AIIB and its member countries, new investment projects planned for AIIB financing, opportunities to expand regional cooperation and integration, and issues related to strengthening economies and developing infrastructure.
Minister of Economy Mikayil Jabbarov delivered a speech at the “Across Borders: Connecting Regions, Building Resilience” seminar, highlighting Azerbaijan’s green transition, the application of green economy principles in the liberated territories, and cooperation potential in railway, transport, transit and logistics projects.
Jabbarov also held several meetings, including with AIIB President Zou Jiayi. They discussed the importance of Azerbaijan–AIIB cooperation since 2016 and the Bank’s support for infrastructure, sustainable development, the green transition and green energy.
In a meeting with Qatar’s Finance Minister Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, the sides discussed mutual investment, new projects, stronger private-sector partnerships, and deeper cooperation in finance and investment.
The AIIB Annual Meeting is a key platform for discussing the Bank’s strategic priorities, infrastructure investment and regional cooperation. Azerbaijan has been an AIIB member since 2016 and is one of its founding members.
