AZERBAIJAN STRENGTHENS ITS FOREIGN POLICY POSITIONS THIS YEAR
Positions of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy have been drastically strengthened in the international arena over the past year, spokesman to the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry Khazar Ibrahim said at a year-end news conference on Monday.
He said that much of the focus of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy in 2007 was Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh.
The Prague process in 2007 envisaged a meeting between the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia, four meetings of foreign ministers, and OSCE co-chairs’ trips to the region.
President of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Goran Lennmarker, OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos and other OSCE top officials visited the region during the year.
International observers many times monitored the troops contact line. The facts about continual ceasefire shattering were sent to the foreign embassies accredited in Azerbaijan and international organizations.
“Azerbaijan does everything for the peaceful resolution of the conflict. We believe that we have not yet exhausted all diplomatic options for settlement of the conflict,” said Ibrahim.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to work in this direction in 2008 as well.
