AZERBAIJAN TOPS INT’L JUNIOR JUDO TOURNAMENT
The 30th international judo tournament among juniors in memory of General Hazi Aslanov, twice Hero of the Soviet Union in the World War II, took place at Baku ABU Arena sports complex, which had brought together 146 wrestlers from Azerbaijan, Turkey, Georgia, Greece and Russia.
In men’s competition, Azerbaijani athletes Alekber Guliyev (46 kg), Dilgem Aliyev (50 kg), Rauf Aliyev (55 kg), Rashid Memmedov (60 kg), Sarhan Ahmedov (66 kg), Pasha Nabizade (73 kg), Shahin Gahramanov (90 kg), Farid Babayev (90 kg), as well as Georgian athlete Nikolor Epitashvili (81 kg) mounted on the highest step of the podium.
In girl’s competition, gold medals went to Melten Akchay (36 kg, Turkey), Turkan Aslanova (40 kg, Azerbaijan), Ayishe Gurbanli (44 kg, Azerbaijan), Gunlazi Tinikashvili (48 kg, Georgia), Maryam Ogriashvili (63 kg, Georgia), Salome Tstotkolavri (70 kg, Georgia) and Maryam Vardanashvili (70 kg, Georgia).
Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey ranked first, second third respectively in the team event.
