Azerbaijan, Uruguay: parliaments sign agreement on cooperation
Baku, May 22 (AZERTAC). The parliaments of Azerbaijan and Uruguay have today inked an agreement on cooperation at a meeting of Speaker of the Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov with an Uruguayan delegation led by chairman of the House of Representatives of the Parliament Herman Cardoso.
Speaker Asadov stressed the importance of reciprocal visits in terms of development of the bilateral ties.
“We are interested in the expansion of the bilateral relations with Uruguay not only in the political field, but also in the economic and cultural spheres. Both countries’ parliaments must take an active part in the expansion of these relations.”
Noting that the inter-parliamentary friendship groups have already been created at parliaments both in Azerbaijan and Uruguay, Asadov noted the significance of mutual visits made by these groups.
He said the Azerbaijani and Uruguayan governments signed three documents, adding they will ink five more in the near future.
On the economic and political reforms carried out in Azerbaijan, the Milli Majlis Speaker noted that the amount of fixed capital invested in Azerbaijan reached 130 billion US dollars in the last 10 years.
Speaking of the tolerance in the country, Asadov noted Azerbaijan respects all religions.
He also touched upon Armenia`s aggression against Azerbaijan.
“The occupation of Azerbaijan’s lands, including the Nagorno-Karabakh, by Armenian military troops impedes the economic development of the region,” he said. “Armenia ignores all resolutions and decisions of the international organizations including the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the OSCE. Azerbaijan wants to solve the conflict peacefully and calls on the world community to support justice,” Asadov added.
The chairman of the House of Representatives of the Uruguayan Parliament Herman Cardoso noted his country was interested in building close relations with Azerbaijan in a variety of fields.
