AZERBAIJAN, US:PARLIAMENTS PLAY IMPORTANT ROLE IN EXPANSION OF RELATIONS
Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament Ogtay Asadov met with the visiting delegation of US California State Senate led by Senator Sheila Kuehl, 26 September.
Noting that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the relations with the United States, Speaker Asadov said these ties have reached strategic partnership level. He reminded that the United States has supported the oil strategy accomplishments of Azerbaijan as Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum oil and gas pipelines. Azerbaijan is one of the first countries to join anti-terror coalition and elimination of the 907 Freedom Support Act would promote more intensive cooperation, Mr. Asadov stressed.
Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament said Azerbaijan attaches great significance to ties with California and that opening of Azerbaijan’s general consulate in Los-Angeles is evidence to that.
The Speaker updated on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, informed on the activity of the female members of parliament, emphasizing great contribution of the president of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO Good Will Ambassadors, MP Mehriban Aliyeva to the Azerbaijan-USA inter-parliamentary relations as the chairperson of the friendship group.
Senator Sheila Kuehl spoke of their meetings with officials and executives in regions of country.
The inter-parliamentary links play great role in deepening of the relations between the two countries, the American Senator stressed.
In meeting, also exchanged were views on a number of other issues of mutual interest.
