Azerbaijani ambassador in U.S gets Turkish World Service-2012 award
Washington, May 21 (AZERTAC). TÜRKSAV, Writers and Artists Foundation of Turkish World, has presented Turkish World Service -2012 award to Azerbaijani ambassador to the United States Elin Suleymanov.
During a ceremony dedicated to the Turkish Day Parade and Festival, TÜRKSAV President Yahya Akengin presented the Turkish World Service Award 2012 to the Azerbaijani diplomat for lobbying efforts for the Turkish world against groundless claims of the Armenian diaspora.
In his address to the ceremony, Turkish writer and poet Abdullah Satoğlu recalled “one nation, two states” remark by Azerbaijani national leader Heydar Aliyev, as well as “one nation can`t have two diasporas” remark by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The Azerbaijani ambassador thanked TÜRKSAV, noting that Azerbaijan is committed to the “one nation, two states” policy and that this policy is continued by President Ilham Aliyev. “Strong Azerbaijan means strong Turkey,” the diplomat stressed.
The ambassador also noted that fraternal ties and strategic cooperation between the two countries have good impact on development of the whole region and it is important to deepen relations among the Turkish states.
Suleymanov thanked head of the Federation of Turkish-American Associations Ali Çinar for organizing the event, and congratulated the participants on the 32nd Turkish Day Parade and Festival.
Turkish Minister of European Union Affairs Egemen Bağış, former Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan Hulusi Kılıç, former PACE President Mevlut Çavuşoğlu, Turkish MPs, Turkish ambassadors and consulate generals and members of the Turkish diaspora in the U.S attended the ceremony.
The event ended with a concert of popular Turkish singers.
On May 18, the 32nd edition of the Turkish Day Parade and Festival, an all-day event that promotes Turkey and its culture in New York, was celebrated with various activities outside the Brooklyn Municipal Building by hundreds of Turkish and American people on Thursday.
The festival was organized by the Federation of Turkish American Associations (TADF) and attended by high-ranking individuals, including Ambassador Elin Suleymanov and deputy of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ganira Pashayeva.
The Brooklyn Municipal Building was adorned with Turkish flags and photos of the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, for the festival. The event started with a concert introducing Turkish music and continued with a performance by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) band, a concert by the Bursa Mehter group and a performance by the Ankara Metropolitan Municipality's folk dance group. Various Turkish dishes were served during the festival to the attendees.
