Azerbaijani embassy in Ashgabat marks Victory Day
Ashgabat, May 9 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s embassy in Turkmenistan held an event to mark 9 May - Victory Day over fascism.
The event gathered Azerbaijani veterans who fought against fascists during the World War II.
Ambassador Vahdat Sultanzade congratulated veterans on the Victory. The diplomat said Azerbaijani people displayed heroism and bravery both on front and back lines.
Sultanzade noted contribution of the Baku oil to the Victory of the World War II. “On the eve of what came to be known as “The Great Patriotic War”, Baku was the cradle of the Soviet oil industry, and as such, the major supplier of oil and oil products. In 1940, for example, 22.2 million tons of oil was extracted from Baku which comprised nearly 72% of all the oil extracted in the entire USSR. Consequently, the war could barely have been won had it not been for Baku oil and the fine quality of fuel that this city continuously supplied to the war front during 1941-45s.”
The Ambassador spoke of national leader Heydar Aliyev`s 90 jubilee, saying the Great Leader`s anniversary is being marked in Azerbaijan and in many countries. He praised invaluable merits of the National Leader to preserve the independence and statehood of the country.
Azerbaijani veterans shared their war memories.
They hailed national leader Heydar Aliyev`s care and attention to veterans, and thanked President Ilham Aliyev who successfully was continuing political course of the Great Leader.
