AZERBAIJANI JUSTICE MINISTER MEETS HUMAN RIGHTS WATCH EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Azerbaijan`s Minister of Justice Fikrat Mammadov met with Kenneth Roth, Executive Director of the organization Human Rights Watch, and his accompanying delegation on Tuesday.
The Minister informed the guests about what has been done to protect human rights and freedom of information in Azerbaijan.
Fikrat Mammadov said his country is effectively cooperating with relevant international organizations.
The Minister described the fact there are 3,500 publications and over 2,400 non-governmental organizations in Azerbaijan, as huge attention the government gives to freedom of expression and information.
Fikrat Mammadov also spoke about judicial reforms conducted in Azerbaijan.
Kenneth Roth informed the Azerbaijani Minister about the Human Rights Watch, whose aim he said is to protect human rights and freedoms in 70 countries worldwide including Azerbaijan.
Touching on the freedom of speech in Azerbaijan, the Human Rights Watch Executive Director said correspondents and journalists are not always objective, and stressed the importance of increasing their professional knowledge and skills.
Other questions discussed during the meeting included the activity of mass media, responsibility of journalists and the issue of arrested journalists.
After the meeting Kenneth Roth visited the Historic Museum of Justice.
