AZERBAIJANI PARLIAMENTARIANS MEET INTERNATIONAL EXPERTS ON CHILDREN’S RIGHTS
Members of Standing Committee of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan parliament) for social policy met August 24 Hervé Boéchat, Deputy Coordinator, International Social Service for Children without parental Care and Nigel Cantwell, Child Protection Consultant, who are in Azerbaijan at the invitation of the State Committee Family, Women and Children Issues.
The visitors shared their impressions from the meetings they held with Azeri officials.
They said their visit aims to get acquainted with the system of child adoption, adaptation of this system to the international standards, especially to the United Nations convention on the Rights of Child, the Hague Convention on the Child Adoption, as well as to give recommendations to the system to work more effectively.
Hadi Rajably, chairman of the Committee, Musa Guliyev, deputy chairman of the Committee, and other parliamentarians spoke of the measures undertaken by the government for improving the protection of children’s rights.
The speakers said Azerbaijan has joined various conventions on the rights of child, and adapted its legislation to these conventions.
