AZERBAIJAN’S DEFENSE MINISTER MEETS WITH RUSSIAN DEPUTY MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS
Defense Minister of Azerbaijan Safar Abiyev met with visiting Russian deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergey Kislyak.
On the joint usage of the Gabala radar station, Safar Abiyev said that this facility is the property of Azerbaijan this is why Azerbaijan must necessarily participate in the consultations.
Defense Minister touched on the existing military and political situation in the South Caucasus region, saying “unaccounted for” weapons in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan pose a threat to the regional security. According to him, it creates obstacles for Azerbaijan to abide by the requirements of a Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe.
S. Kislyak said Russia regards Azerbaijan as a strategic partner. According to him, Azerbaijan’s stance towards regional security is very important for Russia. He stressed a need for Azerbaijan to participate in the Gabala facility-related consultations.
The sides also exchanged their views on regional security, bilateral cooperation and other issues.
