AZERTAC JOINS EANA
Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency, AZERTAC, became a member of the European Alliance of News Agencies (EANA).
AZERTAC’s membership was backed by an overwhelming majority of votes at a Friday session of the Alliance`s General Assembly in Tallinn, Estonia.
Out of 29 EANA members attending the session 26 voted in favor of AZERTAC making it the third news agency in the post-Soviet space following Russian ITAR-TASS and Ukrainian Ukrinform to gain EANA membership.
A report delivered by EANA Bureau member, Director General of Hungarian News Agency (MTI) Matyas Vince, who was on a fact-finding visit to Baku together with the organization’s Secretary General Erik Nylen, said there are no obstacles for AZERTAC`s becoming EANA member.
President of EANA and Chief Executive of Austrian news agency APA Wolfgang Vyslozil voiced support for AZERTAC’s joining the Alliance, and said Azerbaijan is a rapidly developing country which is committed to democratic values.
Among those who supported the Azerbaijani State Telegraph Agency`s candidacy were A.A. - Anadolu Agency, A.F.P. - Agence France Presse, and A.T.A. - Albanian Telegraphic Agency.
EANA is a non-profit membership association of European News Agencies, and serves as a Pan-European, professional forum for the establishment of contacts and co-operation as well as exchange of information, experiences and know-how among its members. EANA looks after common interests to its members at the European Union and other international organizations, and organize seminars on subjects of common interest to its members. These seminars cover subjects as development of content in news services, marketing, information technology, copyright and other legal matters related to the media.
