Baku hosts conference on Azerbaijan-China economic relations

"Azerbaijan-China economic cooperation" research conference has kicked off at Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). The event is co-organized by the Institute of Economics, ANAS, and Institute of Economics of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS).
Addressing the event, ANAS President Akif Alizade highlighted the history of Azerbaijani-Chinese relations.
He said that after national leader Heydar Aliyev`s visit to China in 1994 relations between the countries began to rapidly develop in all areas, including science. “President Ilham Aliyev who successfully continues the great leader`s political line contributes to the development of Azerbaijani-Chinese relations.”
Alizade emphasized that the volume of trade between the two countries increased from to $1.5 million in 1993 to $770 million in 2016. “Despite the fall in oil prices on the world market, trade relations between Azerbaijan and China have continued to expand.
Azerbaijan’s cooperation with China is rapidly developing in communication, transport, mechanical engineering and a number of other areas.”
CASS President Wang Weiguang hailed rapid development of Azerbaijani-Chinese cooperation. He said Azerbaijan`s favorable geographical position makes this country a strategic partner for China.
