Baku marks World Refugee Day
Baku, June 21 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s capital city has hosted an event on the World Refugee Day co-organized by the State Committee on Refugees and IDPs and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
Prior to the event participants viewed photos depicting grave living conditions of refugees and IDPs.
Speaking to the event, Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan, chairman of the State Committee on Deals of Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov said United Nations General Assembly each year on June 20 celebrated World Refugee Day to raise awareness of the situation facing refugees throughout the world.
Hasanov highlighted what the Azerbaijani government had been doing to improve living conditions of refugees and IDPs in the country.
He said thanks to President Ilham Aliyev`s attention and care, $5.4 billion have been allocated to solve the problems of refugees and IDPs, adding state-of-the-art house and districts had been constructed for them.
Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, Hasanov said Armenia`s aggression caused a $300 billion damage to Azerbaijan.
He said that Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev always stressed that the problem had been a threat to the whole world.
