Beijing, January 25 (AZERTAC). China-Azerbaijan friendship concert has been held in Beijing featuring performance of the Azerbaijani classical music.
People's Artist of Azerbaijan, Professor Yalchin Adigozalov conducted the Chinese National Opera and Dance Drama Theatre.
Held at grandiose Beijing Concert Hall, the performance was a follow-up to a series of concerts by maestro Adigozalov in the U.S., UK, Italy, Austria, Belgium and Brazil.
The more than 1,000-strong audience included Chinese music lovers, diplomats and ambassadors of Turkey, Croatia, Albania, Israel, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, the Philippines and Algeria in Beijing, as well as officials at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The concert was held under the agreement Ambassador Latif Gandilov reached with the Chinese Deputy Culture Minister last November as part of the Azerbaijani Embassy`s work to promote the country`s culture and art in China.
The first great opportunity for the Chinese music lovers to listen to the Azerbaijani classical music, the concert featured performance of works by world renowned composers such as Uzeyir Hajibayli, Fikrat Amirov, Gara Garayev, Niyazi and Soltan Hajibayov.
Speaking to a ceremony prior to the concert, Ambassador Gandilov and head of international cooperation department at the Chinese Culture Ministry Xie Jinying said such events provided a brilliant opportunity for both Azerbaijani and Chinese people to familiarize themselves with each other`s culture. They said it was the first concert that took place through collaboration of the Azerbaijani and Chinese musicians. Gandilov and Jinying also said such projects were contributing to both countries`s culture.
The concert opened with an overture to Koroghlu, an opera by Uzeyir Hajibayli, the founder of classical music in the East. It was performed to the accompaniment of erhu and pipa, Chinese national musical instruments.
The show included performance of “Azerbaijan” capriccio and a suite from Nasimi ballet by Fikrat Amirov, a suite from Gara Garayev`s “Seven beauties” ballet, and a part from “Karvan” symphony by Soltan Hajibayov. Honored Artist, soloist of Azerbaijan State Musical Theatre Nargiz Karimova performed world famous works by Fikrat Amirov, Uzeyir Hajibayli and Niyazi.
The concert closed with a Chinese folklore number, and a solo duet by Chinese vocalist Wu Pan and Nargiz Karimova.
Following the concert maestro Adigozalov shared his views with the Beijing-based correspondent of Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency (AZERTAC): “We had a huge sense of responsibility and excitement tonight.”
“Promoting, for the first time, Azerbaijan`s music in the Chinese land, in a country that has ancient history, rich culture and beautiful traditions is really a great responsibility. You watched the concert and heard the applause from the audience. I think that we achieved tremendous success tonight,” he said.
“Nagriz Karimova`s interesting performance, the contribution of the Chinese soloists, and the Chinese national musical instruments definitely breathed new life in out concert.”
Professor Adigozalov expressed confidence “such projects will continue, and we will stage even more successful concerts”.
